Chaboki - Artist Spotlight

Chaboki is a N.U.M.B favorite not only because of his sheer talent as an artist but because of what a unique and motivated individual he is. The Chicago rapper is a key player in the famous Chicago Drill scene. Although he might not have the numbers like Fredo Santana or Lil Durk hes far more talented. The Drill scene is dominated by artists with the same flows, similar vibes, and are unable to compare to the sheer talent that Chaboki posses. With a unique flow and unique stylistic changes in his music set him apart from other rappers from Chicago. We recently spoke to Chaboki and asked if he was willing to do an Artist Spotlight on him as he is one of the most commonly featured artists on our blog and he gladly accepted this opportunity.

Exclusive Interview With Chaboki:

Where are you from?

I was born in Toronto but I grew up and was raised in Chicago . I also lived in LA for awhile.

What got you interested in music?

I always liked music and one day in 8th grade I decided I was going to start making my own music. I remember the first beat I ever tried to record to was a RJD2 beat called Ghostwriter. I recorded 100 songs my freshman year using a USB mic and Garage Band.

Top 3 Artists and Why?

This is a tough question but I'm gonna try here. 50 Cent because he was really the first rapper I liked. I remember getting his "Get Rich Or Die Trying" album from Walmart the day it came out. I had the CD in my discman if y'all remember those. Lil Wayne is def one of my top 3 just because he is such a versatile artist. I got almost every Lil Wayne song on my iTunes. Last but not least I'd say Eminem because he's just a lyrical genius. I really try not to listen to any of these new artists that keep popping up right now. I listen to a lot of my own music.

What experience in your career was a game changer and why?

Dropping my last mixtape Boki Bandz was definitely a game changer to me... It's my second mixtape and the growth is there, my fans are already waiting on Boki Bandz 2 to come out, That mixtape raised the bar for my self and established me as an artist in my eyes.

What else do you do other than Rap?

I trap... haha I really don't do much other than Rap to be honest. I don't play sports but I just recently got into working out after jail and rehab. I like to read... James Patterson is my favorite author. I'm really into getting money though, i'll hustle from sun up to sun down and through the night.

Most memorable experience?

My most memorable experience was probably just the whole year after I dropped out of high school my sophomore year. I moved to 16th and Halsted alone. Afterwards I moved to LA and was performing every weekend. It was just a lot of changing and I feel like that year was just hectic.

What makes you different than other artists?

I think I'm more versatile than other artists out right now and Im really trying to work on building a whole business along with everything I'm doing. I've been working on my craft for years and you can hear my development through my music. Another thing is I chose to use my real last name as my rapper name" My life has been super transparent these last couple years because of that.
