Chris Webby - "Superhuman" (Official Video)

Growing up listening to Webby it was evident that his love for music was beyond the money and the fame, his lyrical release always created for a unique euphoric experience. When “The Checkup” dropped the Dj Semi produced track “Superhuman” was by far the best on the tape. The pure emotion and realness of the track really showed Webby’s amazing talents. Superhuman has become a fan favorite and is definitely evident through much of the chatter between many of the Ninja’s. This is a classic arguably one of his best yet. It definitely falls in the same category as Fragile Lives, Starry Eyed,  Blue Skies, Best In The Burbs and many other classics from webby that really show pure emotion, and his commitment to music. Lastly I really have to give a shootout to Hunter Lyon for creating one hell of a visual.

Mike Squires Exclusive Interview

Mike Squires on the right (Red and Black Flannel)

Mike Squires owner/founder of Squires Entertainment is arguably one of the best videographers in the New England region. His ability to create amazing and mind blowing visuals is untouched by anyone else in the underground music scene. He’s worked with YG, Kid Ink, Mike Stud, Chris Webby, Danimal Lector, Soul Khan, Tyga, Fabolous, Action Brodson, ect. This is impressive for any videographer to have accomplished, but the fact that he is only entering his sophomore year in college is insane. Because of his many talents we asked Mike if he would be interested in an interview and he accepted; so now you can find out more about one of the most talented videographers in the New England area.

Example of Some of Mikes Work:

1. What got you interested in film?

I have always been interested in film since I was young. I shot my first video for a school project in middle school with my long time friend Nick. People loved the video, everyone was talking about it around school, it was kind of like our 15 minutes of fame, haha. But long story short, we continued to put out comedy skits throughout high school, even though we went to different schools. We must have put together almost 100 videos once everything was all said and done. But you may be wondering, well how’d you end up doing music videos if you did comedy skits. In high school I had a friend of mine who is an aspiring rapper. He basically asked if I ever shot a music video before. Next thing you know, I’m on a train to time square to shoot my first video under Squires Entertainment.

2. What advice would you give to people who are new or not as established as you are in the industry?

Don’t give up, if you really want to accomplish something, keep at it and I guarantee your hard work will pay off! Also, stay true to yourself; it’s always good to remember your roots and where you came from.

3. Top 3 favorite artists and why?

I really don’t have favorite artists; I pretty much listen to everything. As far as creativity goes, I am a huge fan of Kanye West. I know there was a lot of controversy of Yeezus, but honestly, I think that album was ahead of its time and the first of it’s kind. Chiddy Bang has also had a huge influence on me growing up. Their style really got me into hip-hop because of the sampling they did. Kids by MGMT use to be my favorite song and when I heard how Xaphoon flipped it into Opposite of Adults, I was mind blown haha.

4. What experience in your career was a game changer for you and why?

This is a tough one. I really think it’s been a gradual change from multiple experiences rather than just one.
5. Favorite project that you have ever worked on?

I honestly can’t pick one haha. I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people and everyone brings something unique to the table.

6. Is this just a temporary job or do you see yourself doing this long-term?

I am blessed to say that I am doing this full time now! I’m very passionate when it comes to my videos so I would love to do this long term. If things keep up the way they are now, I can’t see why I couldn’t do this for the rest of my life. You don’t know how appreciative I am of the fact that I am able to maintain a good paying job out of something I love.
7. What else do you do besides Video?

Haha, I was reflecting on that question the other day. Honestly, not much. I also have been producing beats for a couple artists I have working with. For the most part, my time is spent filming, editing, producing and networking. I’m very serious when it comes down to my business!
8. Where do you see yourself in the industry in 5 years?

This is the 3rd time someone has asked me a question similar to this, this week. There is no possibly way I could answer this though, I barely know where I’m going to be tomorrow, let alone 5 years from now! Hopefully, still doing film though!
10. What do you do for Tuxedo Junction?

Ever since they re-opened I have been the resident videographer! Shout out to Ian Bick, he’s been putting on some amazing shows! Both GTA and Chris Webby were awesome shows and you can check out the recap videos online! Tuxedo has some awesome shows coming up and If you live in the area I highly recommend attending to their future events!!!!

11. Coolest Famous Rapper/Artist that you have had a conversation with? and why?

I’ve met a good amount of famous for someone in my position but I’m going to have to give the coolest rapper/artist award to Kid Ink. Honestly, he’s just a down to earth dude. He’s super nice and humble. He’s got a good team behind him. He’s also one of the only artists I have filmed multiple times, so him and his team recognize me and are pretty cool when it comes down to filming restrictions.

12. What is the hardest thing for you as a Videographer? and why?

Time Management, this summer has been awesome because I have been able to shoot videos as a full time job, but sometimes I take on a little more than I can handle. I always like a challenge, but falling behind on editing is the worst.
13. Favorite Food?

Ribs… I think
14. Craziest thing to happen to you while on the job?

Here’s a list
·      Been yelled at by drunk hockey players
·      I have been stopped by police 20+ times throughout my career
·      Been attacked by a swarm of bugs
·      Had to sneak into a college campus in someone’s trunk
·      Backed into a car
·      Worked on lighting in a sex dungeon
·      Camera broke
·      Been covered in champagne
·      Filmed with a severed pigs head
Nothing too crazy yet, but that’s all I could think of off the top of my head

15. Most memorable experience

I would have to say my Winner video with P.MO, video is just over 2 years old and I still have people hitting me up like “dude, the video you did with the truck is awesome” haha!

16. What videographer do you aspire to be like?

I just aspire to be a better version of myself. I’m always looking for ways to better my craft. I’d rather be the first Mike Squires than the next Hype Williams.

G-Eazy Say Ft. French Montana

Oakland rapper G-Eazy teams up with French Montana who is arguably one of the best collab artists in the game. Although G-Eazy is known for his new school beats he and French kill this old school style beat. G-Eazy’s flow is on point his bars just really pop and French as usual really kills every track he touches. Definitely one of the best singles I’ve heard all summer.

Cal Scruby "GOLD COINS"

Ohio rapper, Cal Scruby has taken the frat/college rap scene to a whole new level. His flow is legitimately addicting and the songs he creates are catchy and just grab you, basically Cal is one of the best things to happen with the frat/college rap scene.

The recent release of his music video for Gold Coins was well worth the wait. With beautiful visuals, including amazing camera work and perfect transitions between shots. At around 59 seconds or so Cal completely changes his flow and the video goes from day to night. I must say its perfect and keeps the listener hooked. Overall Cal Scruby is on the come up and creates some truly amazing music.

Felly - Dirty Pockets (Official Music Video)

The up and coming CT native and 2273 artist, Felly has been really kicking butt recently. With almost 10,000 soundcloud followers and 5,000 twitter followers and nearly 30,000 youtube subscribers he is on the verge of popping as an artist.

As usual Felly’s music videos are shot while he’s having a good time with beautiful girls, music, weed, and this one is no exception. However I think this is the best shot video Felly has released yet and as always it is done exceptionally well. Felly is definitely one of the best artists to come out of the New England area and I am excited to see what he does next.

Alex Wiley - "Ideas (Adderall)"

Rapper Alex Wiley, of Chicago, Dropped a music video to his song Ideas (Adderall) off of his recent Mixtape Village Party. Out of all the talented and up and coming artists from Chicago Alex Wiley is by far one of my favorites and also one of the most talented rappers to come out of Chicago.

The video is trippy to say the least, with Adderall falling from the sky, to the crazy filters, and random clips of black and white film. This mixture of film elements creates a really unique and different effect on the viewer.  I really have to give props to Alex Wiley the song is really well done and the video only enhances the musical experience.

Felly - Chlorine

This instrumental by Felly is by far one of my favorites yet. This Trip-Hop type beat is something I have not yet heard from him, but as always it is executed in a manner that never seems to disappoint. Felly is definitely one of the best producers to come out of CT and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Rob Curly - Float (prod. LSMi)

Up and coming Miami Rapper Rob Curly, is definitely making a name for himself in the underground Hip Hop scene. This single "Float” is definitely one of my favorite tracks that he has released. Rob is known for his calm and relaxed flow and ability to create lyrical experiences in his songs. Overall it’s a tight track and something you can definitely jam out to.

Sulaiman - Fam And Foolies (featuring Chance The Rapper)

Chicago is known for its unique scene and the huge amount of talent that comes from the area. This track by Sulaiman definitely showcases what the city is known for. The fact that chance is on this track is just another example of how the Chi-Town is really the place to be to find new and up coming rappers.

Chris Webby - "Good Day" (feat. Jitta On The Track) (Official Video)

Chris Webby released a music video today for his 5th song on his “The Checkup” Mixtape, this video features Jitta On The Track, who is another CT artist. In addition to this Jitta is the only other artist signed to Webby’s Label “Homegrown Music Group”. The song is one of my all-time favorites by Webby and the visuals that Hunter Lyon, the director of this video, captured are absolutely stunning. This song is an overall a solid representation of Chris Webby and Jitta On The Track’s lyrical abilities.

WAZA

Up and coming Norwalk producer WAZA is currently a junior in high school. WAZA has a unique style and original sound like no other producer I have yet to hear in the game. This really sets him apart and is why he is one of my favorite underground producers.

Check out some of his work Below

Luke Christopher - Life Jackets (Official Music Video)

Luke Christopher really killed this song, and the music video is one of the highest quality videos I have seen in my life. Life jackets is personally one of my favorite songs of all time, and really shows his lyrical ability as a rapper and singer.

The song is extremely relatable as it talks about the struggles many people face when they are in a relationship, and the reality of how nervous people can be when jumping into a relationship feet first. “Life Jackets” refers to not being a 100 percent committed until you know its safe. This shows how when your too committed you can get burned and Luke does an excellent job of showcasing this in his music video.

Tapper - 0-100 Remix

Up and coming Norwalk rapper Tapper is going to be a college freshman this fall. His unique flow combined with the verity of beats he chooses shows how versatile of a rapper he is and showcases his talent and never ending ability to continue impress and stun the listener. I am definitely going to keep a close eye on Tapper over the coming months, as I feel that he is really starting to come into his own and will really start to make some very solid moves in the industry.

G-Eazy I Mean It ft Rick Ross & Remo

In this remix G-Eazy one of the most talented rappers to come out of Oakland, and Miami native Rick Ross team up to create a better track than the original. "I Mean It” is one of my favorite tracks G-Eazy has done and Rick Ross absolutely killed his verse. I would definitely recommend that you check this remix out it is by far one of the best collabs that I have heard G-Eazy do in quite some time.
