Earlier this week I finally got in contact with one of my favorite rappers of all time. Duzzo Dave is one of the finest artists in CT. With a heavily Chicago influenced style Duzzo Dave has taken it and put an east coast twist on it. When we asked Dave to feature for our Artist Spotlight he was more than happy to do it.
Our Interview With Duzzo Dave
What got you interested in Music ?
My first memory of like listening to music by myself was when I had this boombox joint and my parents had this Best of The Beatles CD and the Best of Elvis Presley CD and like some country CD... and then my 17 year old cousin gave me the Marshall Mathers LP when I was in 2nd grade and everything changed after that.
Top 3 favorite artists and why?
Probably Eminem just because lyrically nobody was fucking with him and because he didn't give a fuck and he was very honest in his expression which was what I think made him so great. He wasn't scared to be himself.
Juelz Santana because he just had mad swag. He ain't have the best lyrics but his swag was always dripping (pause). I definitely admired that growing up.
Kendrick because he's just an amazing songwriter. He knows how to choose beats and he knows what to do with them. Every song is a piece of art. And he has a message. He has substance.
And then number 4 is Drake. He was def a big influencer for me growing up. Just sonically Drake is dope. Surface-wise Drake is great. Who cares about the message when the shit sounds good.
What experience in your career was a game changer for you and why?
I used to be mad scared to perform. Then one day I had to perform and I was like aight i'm not getting embarrassed no more so I was like fuck it I'm gonna rap to the crowd and I'm not gonna look away at the crowd not once. After that I realized how little substance there was in my fear of performing. I been killing shit from then on.
What else do you do besides Rap?
Ball at Fitch.
Most memorable experience?
College.
What makes you different than other artists?
I'm honest with my content. I follow what I like. I’m not following trends.
